Lunarfest 2019 Lion and dragon dance Parade

Join us for the Lion and Dragon Dance Parade at 10:00AM on Whitney Avenue and Audubon Street. This year, the Wang Chi Ming Hung Gar’s lions will be joined be dragons made by students in the Greater New Haven area. The lions, dragons, and Lunarfest sponsors and partners will march up Whitney and down Audubon. After brief remarks at the end of Audubon, spectators should make their way to the star location on the map to see the lion dance finale.

red envelopes and the lion

Red envelopes are given at holidays and celebrations to wish good fortune and happiness to its recipient. Make sure to get a red envelope at the parade from a volunteer. It is tradition to add money to the envelope to gift to the lion. People will be able to feed the lion red envelopes after the finale.

After the parade, people are encouraged to stick around as the afternoon is filled with indoor performances, activities and workshops. These will take place at our eight indoor venues (see above). For all Lunarfest programming, see our full list here.
